Starting in 1969 Browning began the actual number using two digits for the date of manufacture, followed by an M. The number after the M designates the year. Doesnt match up with Brownings website naming convention for any year. To find the year of proof of your (Post 1975) Browning or Miroku shotgun you’ll need to find the Serial Number. The best load we found for the 358 was a Speer 250 grain over 44 grains of IMR 4064 the 308 preferred a Speer 165 grain, and 45 grains of BLC-2 both preferred fed 215 primers. 1967-68 BARs had serial numbers that read like this: 1234M8. The date of sale on your BL-22 box is probably correct. Those earlier BLR rifles, with the mag extending below the receiverĪre in my experience very accurate with the correct handloads, one hunting partner owns one in cal 308 and my late hunting buddy owned one in cal 358 both would routinely group 5 shots off the bench at 100 yards in under 1.3" rather consistently with selected hand loads, Finally there are the unfired models that include serial numbers 1 and 2 (number 3 resides in the Browning Arms vault).
